Frequently asked questions for prospective members

How do I join the Rec club?

You can create your membership online by clicking here or come into the club and join up in person.

How old do I need to be to join?

You need to be 16 years old to be a member of the Rec club and use the gym facility.

Can I visit the club before joining?

Yes -we don’t offer free trials, but you can always come and have a look round anytime between 9-5pm Monday -Friday or between 10-4pm at weekends. You can also buy one or three day passes to try the gym here before you become a member.

Do you offer a student discount?

We offer students the same discount we offer NHS staff on production of a valid student ID when signing up-student memberships do need to be done in person at the Rec club.

Do you offer disabled access?

We do have disabled access to our sports hall and ground floor studio and changing facilities.

Do you offer NHS discounts?

Yes, we do-as proud supporters of the Royal Free London Trust we offer NHS discounts, for full details please click here.

Do I get a membership card?

Yes a membership card will be issued once joined.

Can I leave things in lockers overnight?

No-our lockers are only for use when you are in the club-we empty the lockers at the end of each day and move any items to lost property. If we do need to break a padlock to access a locker, we will not be able to replace that padlock.

Are classes included in my membership?

No. Currently classes will not be included with the membership.

How do I book a class?

What happens if I miss a class or need to cancel a class?

If you need to cancel a class, please contact club staff via …. or cancel online here.

Is personal training available?

Yes, please click here for the personal training section of our website or come in and speak to one of our in-house personal trainers about the bespoke fitness programme they can offer you.

Are there ladies only areas in the Rec club gym?

We do not currently offer any ladies-only gym sessions.

Do I have to attend a gym induction before I become a member?

Inductions aren’t mandatory but any of our management team will be happy to show you how things work.

Are there changing facilities and lockers?

Yes, we have separate sex changing rooms and all have showers and changing areas. There are lockers in these areas.

Can I park at the Rec club?

As we are located next to a hospital there is no onsite parking available. Hampstead heath over ground station is less than a 5-minute walk away and buses.

Is there free Wi-Fi in the gym?

Yes free Wi-Fi is available.

Can I restart an old membership?

Memberships are renewed annually.

Can I pay my membership up front?

Yes, you can prepay your membership for a fixed term of 12 months and can be paid in full with a credit or debit card.

Can I bring a guest?

We do not allow you to bring a guest for free-however your guest can purchase one of our Day Passes to join you at the Rec club for the day.

Can I manage my membership online?

Yes-you can be in control day or night-just log in here to update details such as address, make changes to bank details, change your direct debit date and others.

How many times can I use the Rec club in one day?

As many as you like-we are open…………

How do I cancel my monthly membership?

The easiest way is through the online cancellation process. Please cancel your monthly memberships at least 5 working days before the next payment is due to ensure no further payments are made.

Is my personal information secure?

Yes, our website uses a secure connection.

What are the Rec Club rules?

All our club rules are displayed on posters within the club. Please also click here to view our swimming pool rules.

What happens if one of my payments fails?

Don’t worry-we understand this can happen sometimes-we will send you a message letting you know what’s happened and how you can make the payment online. If your monthly payment fails, we will suspend your membership until the outstanding amount is paid.

Is the Rec club open 24 hours a day?

No, our opening hours are here.

Is the Rec club open on bank holidays?

No, the Rec club is closed on Bank holidays to give our wonderful team a well-deserved break.

I’ve left something at the club-what should I do?

The team will keep any lost property safe for up to 2 weeks so please contact us straight away to let us know what you have left behind. We will try our best to return your property to you, but we cannot be held responsible for your personal property whilst at the club.

Is there CCTV in the club?

Yes, we operate CCTV throughout the club.

Why do I need to fill in a health declaration?

We ask all members to do this to make sure everyone using the club is safe to do so. If you have any questions, please speak to your GP.

How do you keep the club clean?

Our staff work hard to maintain the highest levels of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the club. Please do let a member of management know if you have any concerns.

What do I do if I am worried or concerned about something in the club?

The rec club is a safe space where everyone can come and work out and enjoy their time in the club. Bullying or harassment is unacceptable and will not be tolerated at any time by anyone -please tell a member of management if you have any concerns.

How do I get emergency help?

Speak with a member of our staff who will always be in the club during opening hours. All members of management staff are fully first aid trained and will be able to help you. There are also emergency buttons. We also have automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and first aid kits in the club.

Will the club ever be unstaffed?

No, the club will always have staff in it during the hours it is open.
